Camp Yellowjackets
A WOODSY activation at SXSWShowtime wanted to bring their wildly popular Yellowjackets to life at South by Southwest. We created Camp Yellowjackets, which created space for both the unsettling darkness and the ironic, dry humor of the show. Knowing that the themes of survival, teamwork, and (yes) cannibalism needed to be woven throughout, we liked the idea of masking all of the blood and darkness with an overly cheery, everything’s fine here! Summer Camp. This created an experience that felt the same way it did to watch the show: at once fun, cheeky, spooky and surreal.
The build included a full interior and exterior 360 cabin, erected within the confines of a bare-bones warehouse in East Austin. In addition to the cabin we had an axe throwing target practice game, a winter woods scene with a creepy shrine and falling snow, and a meat shack serving some… mystery meat (it was steak).
